About 1 Man District:  My name is D’kai Duncan. I'm on the right. I live in North Philadelphia. I attended St. Martin De Porres for Grade School. Some of my favorite things to do are play basketball and watch Spongebob Squarepants. My favorite class in school is U.S. government and politics. My name is Oisín Carthy. I live in Haddonfield, NJ. I attended Haddonfield Middle School but decided to choose Roman Catholic as my high school. I play lacrosse and participate in the mock trial and world affairs clubs. I am on the varsity teams for both mock trial and lacrosse. My favorite classes are Chemistry and Geometry.

Judges' Statement

Team 1 Man District's scores were good. They set out to meet three goals and achieved two. Their compactness score was good, and was third overall in compactness. They drew a visually good map. Their essay was short but it was straightforward.

Personal Essay

When drawing my map compactness was one of my priorities and we tried to keep it as high as possible while still keeping in mind my other values. Our second value was having competitive elections. This was the hardest value to keep consistent along with compactness but we were able to make end with eight competitive districts. Our final value was keeping equal populations, which was fairly easy to do with only slight adjustments.
