Personal Statement
The map was drawn to promote cultural homogeneity, preserve a sense of "place," and divide rural and urban areas. This was most successful in redistricting Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, thanks to their diversity, population density, and somewhat smooth transition from urban, to suburban, to completely rural areas. Despite the difficulties in overcoming Pennsylvania's mostly white, republican demography, this map provides a decent structure for fair elections and an overall healthy democracy.
