Professor Christopher Fowler

Why does gerrymandering bother you?

It is part of a broader system that reinforces polarization in our democracy by incentivizing manipulation of the election process rather than responsiveness to the electorate's policy preferences. Anything that reduces polarization and increases the incentive to provide responsive representation is essential in this time of declining trust in institutions.

What does voting mean to you?

I have voted in every election for which I have been eligible with the exception of a single primary vote where my absentee ballot did not arrive in time. I cannot overstate the importance of voting.
