The national state of play on redistricting reform

In numerous states, this fall's election includes important votes on the election redistricting reform.

This piece by the Associated Press gives a comprehensive, fair tour of the horizon.

Pennsylvania gets a mention towards the bottom of the piece thanks to the state Supreme Court's groundbreaking ruling earlier this year tossing out the state's old, notoriously gerrymandered congressional map.

Yes, the grassroots push for a state constitutional amendment to create a citizens redistricting commission foundered this summer.

But this story shows that the Pennsylvania effort was just one tile in a much larger national mosaic of citizen activism for reform.  And it shows examples of how persistence paid off in useful reforms.  These are grounds for hope.

And if you really can't get enough of this stuff, here's a piece from the Pew Charitable Trusts that covers similar ground in even greater depth.
