The issue of legislative redistricting (and more frequently, its extreme version – gerrymandering) has been top of mind in recent years.

Today, in an era of heated political rhetoric and hyper partisanship, the public and the courts have turned their attention to what considerations should and should not go into drawing the new maps.

Draw The Lines PA project manager Chris Satullo, former editorial page editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer and WHYY reporter, will present an overview of recent redistricting cases that have created new gerrymander caselaw, including League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Pa. 2018), a case that resulted in the redrawing of the Commonwealth’s Congressional Districts by the State Supreme Court. He’ll also give lawyers a way to meet their ethical duty under Rule 6.1 to improve the system of justice by getting involved in the ongoing Draw The Lines PA digital mapping competition.

This free one-hour CLE will offer 1 Ethics CLE Credit and is offered in partnership by the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Dauphin Bar Association, Widener Law Commonwealth’s Law & Government Institute and Draw The Lines PA.
